100 days of no booze.

A few days ago I passed the 100 day mark. Numerically this is obviously a nice mile stone but I have been here before a couple of times and I know that this is also the time to be wary. I have never got beyond around 110 days and I’m determined this time will be different so I thought I would do list of the good things and not so good things that have happened in the first 100 days just to remind and anyone reading this how much things change in a relatively short space of time.

So, in no particular order…

Good things.

  1. Better sleep. I used to wake several times to go to the toilet during the night as I was so full of liquid. Now I sleep like a baby all night and wake up feeling refreshed!
  2. No hangovers. So nice to not wake up feeling groggy, lethargic, anxious etc.
  3. Saved a stack of cash. I reckon I’ve saved in the region of £900 to £1000. That’s serious.
  4. Lost weight. Within the first month I had lost half a stone!
  5. I get up early. This has been big for me. I’ve never been a morning person but I set myself the the challenge of getting up everyday at 6 and I love it!
  6. I’ve started reading again. Rather than smashing back beers watching crap tv I read every night.
  7. I’m more patient. This has benefited my wife and kids I’m sure!!
  8. Time to think. When of the biggest things is I’ve realised how much of my mental space was taken up with thinking about booze. When’s the next drink? Is there enough booze at the party? Do I need an excuse to go to the shop to buy more? etc etc etc
  9. More tolerant. I’m nowhere near as easily wound up. (Idiot drivers, numpty colleagues, politics etc)
  10. Better general mental health. Less low spells but also less manic highs.
  11. More confidence in social situations. This was a big surprise! I got though a sober stag do, holiday and wedding and really enjoyed them!!

Bad stuff.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing! Honestly, looking back to when I was drinking, I was a different person. I’m Enjoying this person much more.
